Helped build an online gaming business inside Covus from two people to almost 50 employees, reaching more than €5M revenue in year one and more than €10M in year two, followed by a successful sale to ProSiebenSat.1 Media Group.

International AdTech

Crobo — Building an AdTech Network

As founding team member and key operator of Crobo, Matthias helped build an international AdTech and affiliate network for online games, scaling the company to around 100 employees, four international offices and more than €25M revenue. During this phase, he also gained experience in raising venture capital and venture debt, including financing from a venture fund and a UK-based debt investor.

TAB — Founded 2016, Sold to PIA Group 2018

In 2016, Matthias founded TAB, an AdTech and performance marketing agency focused on online games, app marketing and mobile user acquisition. In 2018, TAB was successfully sold to PIA Group.

PE-backed Executive Leadership

PIA Group — COO Digital Agency Division

At PIA Group, Matthias most recently served as COO of the digital agency division with approximately 600 employees, within a broader PE-owned group of around 1,500 employees. His role included executive leadership, restructuring, operational transformation, PE stakeholder interaction, M&A, due diligence, transaction support and sale-preparation phases.

Executive Leadership in a PE-backed Digital Group

Following the sale of TAB to PIA Group, Matthias took on increasing executive responsibility and ultimately served as COO of PIA's digital agency division. The division included approximately 600 employees and operated within a broader private-equity-owned group of around 1,500 employees across digital agencies, transformation, CRM, e-commerce and feed management.

At group level, Matthias worked with holding management, C-level leadership and PE stakeholders across strategic discussions, operational steering, restructuring and sale-preparation phases. During 2020–2021, he was involved in a major restructuring phase. During 2022–2023, he contributed to the preparation and strategic positioning for a potential group sale.

In addition to his operational leadership role, Matthias was involved in corporate development and M&A activities within the group, including the evaluation and acquisition of additional companies. He participated deeply in due diligence processes, contract negotiations and transaction discussions, working alongside internal leadership teams, external advisors, auditing firms and due diligence partners such as KPMG, EY and others.

PIA worked with major enterprise clients including Porsche, Müller, MediaMarktSaturn, Mercedes, Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank, DZ Bank, Postbank, Cosnova, Segmüller, Allianz, RTL, Ernsting's family, Lufthansa and many others.
